Born in Latvia - Concert Cycle: Concert of the Latvia's Centenary Youth Symphony Orchestra — Latvia 100

Datums:24.07.2018

The "Born in Latvia" project will establish a unique symphony orchestra that will be made up of Latvia's best young musicians as part of the celebration of Latvia's centenary.  The young people will have an excellent opportunity to improve their skills together with outstanding Latvian musicians who are world famous -- Kristīne Opolais, Ksenija Sidorova and Vineta Sareika.  Each artist will work with a young and promising musician with whom a performance will be presented during the concert.  The three mentors will be managed by accompanist and conductor Ainārs Rubiks, who is the musical director of the Berlin Comic Opera.  They will teach master's classes, conduct ongoing rehearsals, and take part in a summer camp where the programme for the concert will be determined.  Latvian Public Television will present the best parts of this musical adventure, and this will be the only international project that is part of the Latvian centenary that will be distributed to interested parties abroad, as well.

Kristine Opolais is one of the most sought-after sopranos on the international scene today, appearing at the Metropolitan Opera New York, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, Opernhaus Zürich and Royal Opera House Covent Garden. She is working with such conductors as Daniel Barenboim, Antonio Pappano, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Mark Elder, Daniel Harding, Andris Nelsons, Fabio Luisi, Kirill Petrenko and Semyon Bychkov. Kristine Opolais is known for notable collaborations with the Metropolitan Opera, her performances frequently broadcast in HD worldwide. She starred as the title role in Zimmerman’s 2017 production of “Rusalka”, and received critical praise for her “vocally lustrous and achingly vulnerable performance” (NY Times). Opolais maintains a strong relationship with the Met since her debut as Magda in “La Rondine”. Famously, in 2014 she made history at the Met, with two role debuts in 18 hours.
