For the first time in Latvia - a production of a musical based on Anna Brigadere's play Lolitas brīnumputns (Lolita's Wonder Bird). The actors are a diverse troupe of Latvians, minority youth living in Latvia, and ten members of the Latvian diaspora from the US. High school musicals are a forty-four-year-old American tradition: each year most high schools in the US put on a musical. The creators of Brīnumputns hope to introduce a similar tradition to Latvian schools. After the premiere in Riga, the show will go on the road to Rēzekne, Liepāja, Cēsis, and Daugavpils.
The project aims to hold a contest to find 60 high school and university age adolescents - singers, dancers and musical instrument players from the US, Canada and Latvia, who are interested in musical theatre. Through intensive work with a producer and choreographer, the participants will prepare the musical.
Composer - Andrejs Jansons, libretto - Arnolds Auziņš, lyrics - Alberts Legzdiņš, director - Andra Berkolda, consultant - Juris Jonelis.
