In commemoration of Latvia’s centenary year, the exhibition will look at the growth of the idea of an independent Latvia in the texts and philosophy of Rainis. It also reveals the circumstances in which Rainis develops this idea. During the time when this idea becomes reality, events in Europe and Russia develop quickly, while Rainis and Aspazija are in exile in Switzerland and because of war there is very little information exchange about the events in Latvia.
The exhibition unfolds the origins of the idea which the poet daydreams at his worktable and how it corresponds to reality. The narrative of the exhibition takes you from the white page with the name “Latvia” on it to the prophecy of the future – the dramatic poem “Daugava”.
The author of the exhibition – Astrīda Cīrule.
The artist – Reinis Suhanovs.
The exhibition was developed with financial support of The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
