Each of the historical regions of Latvia - Kurzeme, Latgale, Vidzeme, Zemgale, and greater Riga - will be represented by ten 'jewels'. In each of these five locations displays portraying the ten most significant landscapes for each region will be on display.
Past and present photographs, honouring the excellent conservation work done by the stewards of these landscapes, and discussions about what kind of a Latvia we want to see in the future and what needs to be done to achieve it will accompany the display. At the conclusion of the project, all fifty Jewels of the Latvian Landscape will be on display at the National Library of Latvia.
Jewels of landscapes are places and territories in Latvia's rural areas, villages and cities, that we see as special to the region and influential to Latvian values, despite their status of protection or greatness.
They are landscapes that can stop you in your daily routine, sights we want to experience again and contain a special message which we want to be written in Latvia's history to be handed over to our children and grandchildren.
