Datums:01.06.2018 — 30.09.2018

Latvia International Ceramics Biennale - the most significant event in the field of contemporary ceramics in Baltic region. 100 pieces created by artists from around the world, including outstanding Latvian ceramic artists, will be on display for the Martisnons Award Competition to be evaluated by an international jury. The Martinsons Award – an international ceramics competition within a framework of Latvia International Ceramics Biennale held in premises of the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre is a proof of the vitality of ceramics art and a tribute to Pēteris Martinsons, the great Latvian ceramic artist.

At the opening of the exhibition, the judges will award six prizes in two categories - national and international - to facilitate the development and competitive ability of Latvia, European, and world ceramic artists.

A wide variety of exhibitions will take place in Latvia and abroad in connection with the Biennale, including an exhibition of Latvian contemporary ceramics at the Artists' Union of Latvia Gallery, and exhibition of Lithuanian contemporary ceramics at the Latvian Railway History Museum, an exhibition of Pēteris Martinsons' ceramic art at the Tornis Gallery in Sigulda, an exhibition of Valda Podkalne's contemporary ceramic art at the Ogre History and Art Museum, a demonstration of late 20th century Latvian professional ceramics in Panevežys, Lithuania and others. In addition to the Martinsons Award exhibition, the work of Latvian ceramic artist Dainis Punduris will also be on display at the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.
