A beautiful variety of ‘luminism’, or light art, will be on display in light ‘sculptures’ installed in Riga’s parks and public squares, and on illuminated building facades. Artists from Latvia, Portugal, France, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands will be reflecting on the theme - ‘Augšām cēlās gaismas pils!’ [Up rose the Castle of Light!].
The first Staro Rīga festival took place in 2008, celebrating Latvia's 90th anniversary. The tradition continues as each year Riga's streets, buildings, parks, and courtyards are decorated with light on Latvia's birthday.
