The Story Quilt is a unique gift to Latvia on the centenary - a patchwork quilt that has been made by Latvians in the diaspora. The 1097 quilt pieces are testimony to the importance of Latvia and Latvian heritage to people around the world. The quilt will be on display in Rīga until 16 July.
LAPA has created a project that incorporates the Latvian traditions of handiwork with the Anglo-American quilting tradition. The “Story Quilt” is made by Latvians who live outside Latvia. Participants are asked to create a square, using various techniques, which will be sewn together to create a quilt. Each individual square includes the person's name and place of residence, as well as a short description of the square and the creator's ties to Latvia (i.e. stories about parents/grandparents who left Latvia). Squares was sent to Latvia where it was sewn together.
